Ma Zhong

Ma Zhong is Deputy Director at iGDP. He is also Professor at the School of Environment and Natural Resources, Renmin University of China.

 

Prof. Ma is the leading scholar in China in researching and implementing environmental economics and policies.  He has worked extensively with government and international agencies on a variety of research topics in China and has been engaged in national and international environmental policymaking on topics such as environmental finance and taxation, the Montreal Protocol, SO2 emission trading, and water pricing. In the past ten years, he also has been working on the institutional reform of environmental administration in China.  Prof. Ma serves as senior advisor to the China Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) as well as of different provincial governments, and is a member of the China Council for International Cooperation of Environment and Development (CCICED). In 2009, Ma Zhong was awarded China’s Annual “Green Person” award.

Yang Fuqiang

Dr. Yang Fuqiang is Senior Advisor on the Climate Change and Energy Transition Program (CCETP) at the Institute of Energy at Beijing University.

Dr. Yang has worked on China’s sustainable energy strategy and policy for more than four decades and has extensive research experience in energy savings in building, industrial, and transportation sectors, low carbon cities, electricity and renewable energy, as well as climate change. Prior to joining CCETP, he was Senior Advisor on Energy, Environment and Climate Change at the Natural Resources Defense Council. Dr. Yang was the Director of Global Climate Solutions at WWF’s International Headquarter, and Vice President of Energy Foundation and Chief Representative of Energy Foundation Beijing Office. Before 2000, Dr. Yang worked with the State Planning Commission’s Energy Research Institute in China, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory In the USA. Dr. Yang received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering at West Virginia University and his B.S. in Physics at Jilin University.

Kevin Mo
Principal

Dr. Kevin Mo is currently serving as a member of the advisory committee of Institute for Global Decarbonization Progress (iGDP) and a senior advisor for the Climate Change and Energy Transition Program at Peking University’s Institute of Energy.

Dr. Kevin Mo has rich experience in strategic planning and policy research related to energy and climate in the United States, China and European Union. He is a writer and frequent speaker on energy policies and sustainable development at international conferences and workshops. He recently published a book “The Great Changes in Three Years: Research Notes on the EU and the U.S. Climate Legislation and Policymaking”, focusing on the nexus of energy/climate and multiple emerging issues, including international trade, national security, global supply chains, manufacturing, industrial policies, and critical minerals.

He was the Senior Director of the University of Chicago’s Energy Policy Research Institute in China (EPIC China) and Senior Advisor to Becker Friedman Institute China (BFI China), Managing Director of the Paulson Institute Beijing Representative Office, Director of China Buildings Program of Energy Foundation, Director of International Sustainable Buildings Project of Natural Resources Defense Council. His prior work expeirence also includes a Research Engineer at Maryland-based NAHB Research Center and a lecturer at Tsinghua University.

Diego Montero, as iGDP's Strategy Director, works at the intersection of research, communications and strategic planning. Mr. Montero has spent the majority of his career in the international NGO space, including five years at Energy Foundation China.

Wang Yanhui has over 20 years of experience in communications and nonprofit organization management. Ms Wang joined the iGDP team in April 2016 and is responsible for the organization’s operational and communications work.

Ms. Wang has designed and led the implementation of strategic communications projects including the Farewell Coal project focusing on de-fossilization of energy investments and the Go Green integrated communications project promoting low-carbon consumption to the public.

She previously worked as a public information and cooperation development consultant for UNESCO. She has worked for many well-known media, non-profit, and research institutions.

Chen Simin
Communications and Events Manager

Chen Simin has five years of experience in climate communication and eight years of experience in community development.

Ms. Chen joined iGDP in July 2019, where she is responsible for projects including the zero-waste village project called “Zero-Waste Baihe Bay”. Her work also focuses on issues such as plastic pollution reduction, green cooling, and low-carbon consumption.

Ms. Chen has designed and implemented several communication initiatives, including the “Plastic-Free Future” public education campaign and a public outreach program on green cooling. She also led the development of the Community Guide for Promoting Low-Carbon Consumption among Residents, aimed at empowering local governments.

 

Previously, she was involved in the “Three-Year Action Plan for the Huitian Area” in Beijing, managing community governance project funding. She also led several projects focused on supporting vulnerable communities.

She graduated from Guangzhou University with a degree in Social Work, and she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Communication at Renmin University of China.

LYU Yaning

LYU Yaning has over five years of experience in climate change and sustainable development communication.

Ms. LYU joined the iGDP team in October 2024. She is responsible for developing the organization’s communication strategy, creating and editing content, and managing media relations.

Prior to joining iGDP, Ms. LYU worked as a reporter at 36Kr Media, covering energy transition, climate change, carbon neutrality policies, and ESG issues. Earlier in her career, she was responsible for communication at the renewable energy company Goldwind, and she has also volunteered with several NGOs in the sustainability sector.

Ms. LYU holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Tourism from the Department of Social Science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, awarded in 2019.

Xu Yiqing
English Communication Officer

Xu Yiqing joined iGDP in August 2024 as the English Communication Officer. She leads iGDP’s English communication, managing iGDP’s English website, newsletters, and social media platforms, including LinkedIn and X.

Prior to this role, Yiqing served as an Operational Support Officer at the British Consulate General in Guangzhou and interned with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the United Nations Office for Project Services.

Yiqing holds a Master of Public Policy from University College London and a Master of International Politics from Beijing Foreign Studies University.

Cong Yunfei

Cong Yunfei is the Finance and Compliance Manager at iGDP.

Before joining iGDP, she has been engaged in financial management, working to address financial and tax problems at enterprises and NGOs. She has experience in financial framework construction, project management, and financial analysis. Ms. Cong also has expertise in the integration of operational and finance solutions and supports organizational development.

Ms. Cong holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Beijing University of Chemical Technology.

Ma Jianjie has nearly 20 years of professional experience in operation and finance management for NGOs. She served as a Program Officer in VSO before joining iGDP.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Beijing City University.

Wang Linlin
Operations Manager

Wang Linlin possesses over 15 years of experience in international organization operations and human resource management. She specializes in system development, process optimization, and cross-cultural team management, and is committed to driving organizational efficiency and strategic growth. Ms. Wang joined the iGDP team in May 2025, responsible for the organization’s operational management, such as promoting improvements in institutional systems, human resource management, and daily operations.

Prior to joining iGDP, Ms. Wang held roles such as Office Director and Operations Manager in several international organization representative offices in China, where she was fully responsible for overall office operations and human resource management. She led the establishment of operational systems for multiple organizations, designing and implementing efficient management methods and processes. These included optimizing organizational structures, talent development and team building, system standardization, and cross-department collaboration mechanisms.

Ms. Wang participated in systematic training in international organization management and human resource management in California, USA. She completed courses in organizational strategy, overall operations management, and talent development, earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
